How to prepare for Everglades airboat rides
Everglades airboat rides are a tourist favorite and for many good reasons. Between the thrill of riding a fast-paced airboat and the sheer amount of nature and wildlife, it is an experience to behold. Just like many nature tours, there are a few ways you can get prepared to make your time not only better but also safer. Don’t worry. It’s not that much. However, we wouldn’t be doing our jobs properly if we didn’t at least guide you into getting prepared for your airboat ride. As you’re about to see, you’ll only need a few things with you, and you will be ready to come onboard our airboats. Let’s begin.
The suitable clothing for Everglades Airboat Rides
As you’re probably aware, the weather in Florida is primarily hot. Depending on which season you visit, it will be either dry and hot (dry season) or humid and even hotter (wet season). The main important thing you want to remember is that your clothing should be both practical and comfortable. So what does this mean? It’s pretty simple: you will want to wear either a t-shirt or maybe some long sleeves during the dry season, depending on the temperature. Airboats go fast, so be prepared to experience some wind. Shorts or jeans will be the choice of pants to wear. As far as what to wear on your feet, some sandals or simple trainers will do the job just fine.
During the wet season, you will want to consider wearing similar comfortable clothes, but it is always a good idea to bring a poncho with you. Ultimately, your best bet is to check the weather forecast. If you know you’re facing a rainy day, jeans, trainers, a t-shirt and a poncho will work well. The key takeaway is to not bring any expensive items with you. You don’t need expensive jewelry. It all needs to be practical and comfortable. The last thing you want is to worry about costly fashionable clothes, so keep a practical approach to it all, and you’ll be good to go!
Another essential item to take is sunglasses. Florida is very sunny, and you don’t want to get blinded by the sun during your airboat ride. Polarized sunglasses work best for Everglades airboat rides. Polarized glasses offer better visibility than traditional ones due to their ability to reduce glare. It means you will get better visibility all around. Sunglasses aren’t just good for visibility, as they also offer some much-needed protection for your eyes.
Bring your camera and possibly some binoculars
We get it. Who doesn’t want to take some pictures of the Everglades? Between Alligators, other unique creatures, and beautiful sceneries, there is a lot of material here to create great photos. We know you’ll be wanting to share those pictures with your friends and family. Some of you will add those pictures to their existing animal photography collections. The point is this: make sure to take your phone or your camera and make sure your batteries are full before you come onboard. The last thing you want is to run out of battery as you come across some of the unique animals that roam the Everglades!
Here’s another tip: take some binoculars if you have some at hand. You’ll be able to observe even more nature and wildlife at a longer distance. We go as close as we can to certain animals, but we also keep the appropriate space. It is for two reasons: your safety and the conservation of those animal species. It is not required, but binoculars can enhance your journey in the Everglades. They can help you see more and see better.
Stay protected from the sun and the bugs
There’s no escaping it; Florida is just hot. Everglades airboat rides will expose you to the Florida sun. It’s just a fact of life. Trust us when we say this: you don’t want to get sunburnt. It can throw a wrench on your holiday plans. It is unpleasant and all-around not safe for your skin. It is why we strongly advise that you take your sunscreen with you. It is something you will want to do throughout your stay in Florida. Don’t let the sun get the better of you. Stay safe and protected from the sun at all times; you’ll be happy you did so.
We should also mention that the Everglades do count quite a few insects. It’s not nearly as bad as some people might think. However, the best way to avoid bugs and mosquitoes annoying you is to bring along your bug spray. Anything that will deter those little creatures from adventuring on your skin is always a plus. It is not a necessity, but if insects annoy you, consider taking some bug spray/bug repellent for your skin!
Everglades airboat rides are best when hydrated and fed
Florida is hot; we keep saying that. Dehydration is a regular occurrence due to the sun and heat. Our airboats come equipped with a cooler and some bottled water, but we recommend you bring your drinks too. Come along with your water or your favorite soda, as water can be a little boring, we get it! A bit like sunburns, feeling dehydrated is not only unpleasant but unsafe too. We always ensure that you stay as safe as possible, and that includes you staying hydrated.
In the same vein, you might want to bring a few snacks with you. Enjoying the Everglades air and touring on a fast airboat has been known to make people a little hungry. Mostly, you don’t want to feel hungry because it can distract you from truly enjoying yourself. You’ll prefer having all the energy you need to enjoy a good time on the Everglades. So remember, take a few snacks. It won’t hurt to have something to nibble if your body calls for it!
